RAAC Refurbishment Project

Innovative Refurbishment Approach to Ensure Safety and Efficiency on RAAC panels by TR Scaffolding

Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Panel Specialists

TR Scaffold Limited recently had the opportunity to work on an RAAC refurbishment project for a valued client.

The project involved refurbishing an area located above RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) panels.

The client expressed concerns about the safety of working directly on these panels and requested that we explore alternative solutions to ensure the safety of our team while carrying out the refurbishment work.

CLIENT'S SAFETY CONCERNS

The client's primary concern was the potential risks associated with working on the RAAC panels.

RAAC panels are known for their lightweight and porous nature, which can make them fragile and prone to damage if not handled with care.

The client wanted to avoid any potential damage to these panels and ensure the safety of our team working above them.

Project Challenges

TO ADDRESS THE CLIENT'S SAFETY CONCERNS, WE FACED SEVERAL CHALLENGES:

Safely Work Around RAAC Panels

Avoiding direct work on the RAAC panels while refurbishing the area above them

Safely secure the RAAC Panels

Finding a way to prop the panels securely to create a stable working platform

Avoiding Fragile RAAC Panels

Developing a safe and efficient pathway for our team to access the working area while avoiding the fragile RAAC panels

Innovative Solution

To overcome these challenges, our team came up with an innovative design that met the client's safety requirements while ensuring the efficiency of the refurbishment project.

Designing a Suspended Work Platform: Instead of working directly on the RAAC panels, we designed a suspended work platform. This platform was carefully engineered to avoid any contact with the fragile panels while allowing our team to access the working area safely.

Proprietary Panel Support System: To ensure the stability of the RAAC panels during the refurbishment, we developed a proprietary panel support system. This system securely propped up the panels, distributing the weight evenly and minimising any risk of damage.

Safe Access Walkways: To provide safe access to the working area, we constructed walkways that bypassed the RAAC panels entirely. These walkways were designed to meet all safety standards and allowed our team to reach the working area without compromising the integrity of the panels.

Implementation and Results

The implementation of our innovative design was executed meticulously, ensuring the safety of our team and the preservation of the RAAC panels. The refurbishment project was completed efficiently and within the agreed-upon timeframe. The results were as follows:

Zero Damage to RAAC Panels: Our approach successfully avoided any damage to the RAAC panels, meeting the client's primary safety objective.

Safe and Efficient Work Environment: The suspended work platform and support system ensured a secure and stable work environment for our team, reducing the risk of accidents.

Timely Completion: Thanks to our efficient design and safe access walkways, the project was completed on time, meeting the client's expectations.

Project Conclusion

In this case study, we have outlined our innovative approach to addressing our client's safety concerns during a refurbishment project above fragile RAAC panels.

By designing a suspended work platform, a proprietary panel support system, and safe access walkways, we not only ensured the safety of our team but also completed the project successfully and on schedule.

Our commitment to finding creative solutions to complex challenges demonstrates our dedication to client satisfaction and safety in all our projects.
